Open Position: Radio Station Manager (Full-time, Exempt)

WAKW is looking for the ideal candidate to oversee and ensure the smooth operation and growth of the radio station. The Radio Station Manager fully understands, implements and represents the operational, content, promotional, income and compliance interests of station owners. 


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of Radio Station senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated successful record of accomplishment in leading teams to goal completion and team member retention.
  • Extensive knowledge of the evangelical Christian subculture.
  • History of leading profitable radio advertising, digital advertising and promotions at a radio station.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and interact daily and effectively with ownership, staff, donors and advertisers.
  • Sound judgment and strong professional presence.
  • Impeccable ethical standards, good sense of humor, self-started, flexible, commitment to radio.
  • Effective written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with a mix of cultures and skill levels.
  • Ability to use initiative, diplomacy and tact.
  • Enjoy working independently, with some degree of flexibility and ambiguity; successful experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.
  • Skill working with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.  

Usual and Customary Duties:

  • Maintain the vision for the radio station, and with direction from the Director of Broadcasting, establish goals to accomplish the vision.
  • Lead the radio station team members to achieve station goals in listenership and income.
  • Coach department heads in assessing department effectiveness in meeting station goals.
  • Encourage positive interaction between departments in pursuit of station goals.
  • Gain and grow income for the radio station through donor development, underwriting and advertising sales.
  • Foster positive interaction between employees for full engagement in the achievement of station goals.
  • Implement federal, state, local and company regulations and policies (with emphasis on Federal Communications Commissions and the Internal Revenue Service guidance for non-profit organizations).
  • Working with the Director of Operations and Director of Broadcasting, prepare annual operating budget.
  • Represent station at local and industry-wide events.
  • Create and support relationships with key clients, donors and vendors.
  • In concert with Director of Broadcasting and Director of Operations, evaluate team member performance and mediate any staff conflicts.
  • Acquire a consistent pool of prospective listeners, clients, donors and team members.
  • Follow standards of conduct for the company.
  • Mentor and prepare team members for achievement of greater station goals.
  • Display respect for team members, their roles and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by supervisors and ad hoc team leaders.
